I've noticed that MonsterVerse Godzilla's tiering has been increased from 7-B to Low 6-B, the reason being he tanked the Permian-Triassic asteroid.
Normally I'd be all for this however it rubs me the wrong way, not only because the notice regarding the inconsistency of the asteroid itself was removed, but because the feat relies on a rather dubious fan calculation. I personally don't trust pixel scaling at all unless we have official numbers to work with rather than simple fan guesstimation.
Another reason I'd like it changed is because the calc itself is somewhat disingenuous, as it is effectively using damage estimates from the Chicxulub impact as a sort of stand-in for the Permian-Triassic extinction asteroid due to a lack of info for the latter, which obviously would produce an erroneous result.
Lastly, the comic's canonicity with the franchise is questionable at best. It was just supplementary material to serve as a quick cash-grab in order to promote the 2014 movie. As more movies are added, this sort of stuff typically gets left by the wayside as it was never meant to serve as any kind of hardcore universe expansion or be taken seriously.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters on 05/31/19. If it ends up establishing events that contradict the Godzilla: Awakening comic, then that comic will have effectively been retconned and Godzilla's tier shall be changed.
