We work in the dark to serve the light, we are assassins!
— Ezio Auditore da Firenze

Summary

Ezio Auditore da Firenze (1459 – 1524) was a Florentine nobleman during the Renaissance, and, unbeknownst to most historians and philosophers, the Mentor of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins, a title which he held from 1503 to 1513. He is also an ancestor to William and Desmond Miles, as well as Clay Kaczmarek.

A member of the House of Auditore, Ezio remained unaware of his Assassin heritage until the age of 17, when he witnessed the hanging of his father and two brothers, Federico and Petruccio. Forced to flee his birthplace with his remaining family members - his mother and sister - Ezio took refuge with his uncle in the Tuscan town of Monteriggioni, at the Villa Auditore.

After learning of his heritage from Mario, Ezio began his Assassin training and set about on his quest for vengeance against the Templar Order, and their Grand Master, the Spaniard Rodrigo Borgia, who had ordered the execution of his kin.

During his travels, Ezio managed to not only unite the pages of the Codex, written by Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Mentor of the Levantine Assassins, but also to save the cities of Florence, Venice, and Rome from Templar rule.

He ensured the future travels of Christopher Columbus to the New World, liberated Rome from Borgia rule, and prevented the rise to power of Ercole Massimo's Cult of Hermes, helping spread the Renaissance and Assassin ideals of independence and free will throughout Italy.

In the years that followed, Ezio began a quest to rediscover the lost history of the Order. Traveling to the aged fortress of Masyaf in order to learn more of the Assassins before him, he discovered it overrun with Templars and made his way to the city of Constantinople to uncover the location of the Masyaf keys which, as he discovered, would unlock the fortress's fabled hidden library when brought together.

A decade later, Ezio had retired and resided in a Tuscan villa with his wife, Sofia Sartor, and his two children; Flavia and Marcello. Some time after helping teach the Chinese Assassin Shao Jun the ways of the Order, Ezio died of a heart attack at the age of 65, during a visit to Florence with his wife and daughter.

Despite his advancing years, Ezio Auditore's skill and speed as a freerunner increased significantly, being aware of all of his surroundings as well as planning his next move very quickly and carefully, as observed by younger Assassins such as Francesco Vecellio. Ezio's speed and abilities gave him a legendary status among the Roman Thieves Guild, so far as going to convince some of the members to believe that Ezio's freerunning skills were exaggerated, and blatantly impossible for someone his age, forcing him to prove otherwise.), Pressure Points (Can knock an enemy out with a single hit to their neck.), Regeneration (Mid-Low, Quickly healed from a stab wound.), Vehicular Mastery (Can pilot Leonardo da Vince’s war machines.)

Extrasensory Perception (Can use Eagle Vision, a "sixth sense" that lies dormant within human beings as a result of interbreeding between ancient human beings and Isu.), Information Analysis (Those who possess the gift are able to instinctively sense how people and objects relate to them, which manifests as a colored glow, much like an aura. Red indicates enemies or spilled blood, blue indicates allies, white indicates sources of information or hiding spots, and gold indicates targets or objects of interest.), Enhanced Senses (When an individual masters Eagle Vision, the ability can evolve to the more advanced Eagle Sense. This stage heightens all the senses of its user, allowing them to scent vapors of datura, diagnose an injured mercenary as being poisoned by just listening to their heartbeat, pick up cold trails, locate disguised enemies, sense the presence of stalkers, or see through walls.), Precognition (Eagle Sense can be used to foresee a target's path, which is particularly helpful in tailing a target, or detecting the path a guard would take, in order to set up a bomb or lay an ambush.), Retrocognition (Eagle Sense can give the user visions of past events that have happened in the location.), Telepathy (Eagle Vision allows the user to read a target's memories with a touch.)

Enhanced Acrobatics (Hookblade can be used in several acrobatic movements too, such extending one's reach during a jump or quickly climbing up walls in a similar manner to the climb-leap maneuver. It could also be used for flipping over enemies to avoid a fight, a method the Assassins referred to as the "hook and run." The Hookblade was designed to make travel quick and easy, specifically through the use of ziplines that were installed throughout Constantinople. From a zipline, an Assassin could also drop down and use the Hookblade in air assassinations on guards below, called "Zipline Assassination".), Poison Manipulation and Madness Manipulation (Type 1, Poison Blade could be used to inject a target with poison, causing them to attack anyone within range, before dying, Poison Darts can do the same from a distance, Datura Bomb can do the same over a large area to affect many targets at once.), Explosion Manipulation with bombs, Sound Manipulation (Cherry Bomb detonates with a very loud bang, luring nearby enemies.), Smoke Manipulation (Smoke Decoy Bombs lured guards to one point by creating the illusion of a fire. Smoke Screen Bomb created a dense, black smoke from phosphorus to daze nearby guards and civilians and block their sight.), Limited Blood Manipulation (Blood Bombs released out a splatter of lamb's blood, making nearby individuals believe it to be their own, thereby scaring them away.), Fragrance Manipulation (Stink Bombs released a foul odor, derived from skunk oil, that repelled any and all of those who came too close.), Fear Manipulation (The Daggers of Brutus increases the change of enemies running away from Ezio. The Armor of Ishak Pasha increases the change of enemies running away from Ezio.), Attack Reflection (The Armor of Ishak Pasha has a small chance of deflecting projectiles, such as bullets or crossbow bolts.), Possibly Curse Manipulation (The Armor of Ishak Pasha is believed to be cursed.), Stealth (Wearing the Master Assassin Armor allows Ezio to sprint while making no noise.)
