The nearly transparent gelatinous cube travels slowly along dungeon corridors and cave floors, absorbing carrion, creatures, and trash. Inorganic material remains trapped and visible inside the cube’s body.
— D&D Monster Manual

The Gelatinous Cube is a large cube-shaped blob of varying color that appears mindless. It's sole purpose is finding nutrients and adding to it's mass. All that it absorbs is slowly dissolved within it. Cubes are typically 10,000 pounds but larger specimens can become up to 60,000 pounds.
