The Russian Sleep Experiment Subjects were POWs submitted to ungodly tortures and experiments at the hands of the Russian Military shortly after WWII. During these experiments the subjects were forced to stay awake for 15 days under the effects of a toxic and highly experimental gas- the effects caused them to go insane and do such acts as self-evisceration, self-mutilation, and non-stop screaming for three hours until their vocal cords literally were torn.
It should be noted that most participants were either killed by these subjects or by their own hands out of guilt.
